Canon printer and Vista?

Just upgraded to vista and noticed there is not a driver for my canon i850 on their site for vista. Not a huge deal because I haven't used that printer in months but it's still nice to have it.

Does this mean that vista probably doesn't have even some kind of built in driver that will work?

If I install the printer on another machine and just print through the network will my vista pc be able to access it?

Why not try it and see? Connect it and seeif Vista finds new hardware, etc.

Oh, I definately will. It's just unplugged now and I need to find the usb plug for it and my 4 port hub, etc. As I said, I hadn't used it in months even on XP. I'll get around to it but I just wanted to see if anyone actually knew.

Have you checked the Canon website to see if there are vista drivers? I had to download them for my ip4300 when I upgraded to vista.

I see a driver update module there for Vista. Just select Vista from the OS drop-down menu. Duuuuuh... I guess you use it with the XP drivers.

When selecting vista 64:
Drivers
File Name and Description Version File Size Date Posted
No Drivers available for selection

edit: but I finally had a chance to plug it in and it recognizes and works fine.

I also sent them an email asking about it when I posted here. They responded very quick considering it was on a sunday. Here's some of their response.
Dear xxxxxx:

Thank you for contacting Canon product support. We value you as a Canon customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you regarding Windows
64 bit support for the i850 printer.

Unfortunately, 64 bit Vista drivers will not be forthcoming from Canon for the i850 printer.

However, you are eligible for Canon's Loyalty Program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a new product of the same type, discounted from the list price.

To help you get up and running quickly, we also offer free next business day shipping (if the order is completed by 12:30PM ET). If you would like to take part in this second option, please reply back to us within the next 14 days and provide or confirm the following information:

As I said, it seems to work fine in vista but if I could find a comprable model at a decent price, I'd take them up on this offer.

i was just discussing this on another forum. that discount is likely 10%, at least thats what they offered this other person that posted.

in vista32 its just xp drivers- the addon module is just a patch to use the xp drivers on vista. im not sure about 64bit though, isnt there a way to install unsigned drivers now?
