So the thread title is my dilemma. We're visiting Bangladesh this summer, and would like a nice camera to shoot lovely photos of the hellhole.

I would absolutely love the S700, since photography is something I like doing when bored. It's 7.1MP, and is the top rated in the price range ($100-$200) at Newegg. The downside is that it's... big. And costs 40 bucks more. And uses FOUR batteries. o__o

The Canon PowerShot A580 is 8.0MP, a lot more compact, and only uses 2 batteries. However, it doesn't appear to be as good a camera. I own a Fujifilm FinePix A345 that is very similar to this Canon, and it has gone the way of the dumpster in a matter of about a year and a half.

I myself would really like the S700. But I need to think about the rest of us as well. It eats up four batteries, is a lot bigger, and costs more (although price isn't a big factor unless it's over $200).

Which is the better buy?

rechargeable batteries ftw!

it basically comes down to whether you want to carry something that can easily fit into a pocket on some cargo pants (they're dorky but awesome for vacation), or something that'll need it's own dedicated bag.

We bought the S700... it just seems much better, y'know? And the reviews rave about it.

And as you said, rechargeable batteries ftw. :p
