canon powershot a10/not detected

first off, i've downloaded all the necessary programs from the cd that came with the camera. when i plug in the usb from camera to computer, the computer recognizes the camera. however, when i try to import photos, the camera is not detected. i've tried on 2 different computers, to no avail. any suggestions? thanks in advance.
 
Are you sure the program was the correct one for the operating system you are using. I find it easier to just use a compact flash reader myself and it saves batteries.
 
I assume you are using ZoomBrowser EX. I had the same problem with a Canon G2. I reloaded the software and where it asks which camera driver select all the choices. That's how I got it to detect.
