Canon MX492 Scanning Help

I recently bought the Canon all in one MX492. Just recently tried to scanning. I just used the Windows App, it would scan, I do not seem to have an option as to where to put a scan, and although I do see the files listed in documents, they all have picture file extensions, such as pdf. I clicked on one, and it would open in picassa. I also have the option of scanning thru the LCD panel on printer, but it makes no sense to me. The panel says save to: but no options. I am confused. if anyone knows anything about this printer, please help. Do I need specific drivers to scan?
