Can this be fixed? Someone is selling it cheap for this reason. If I buy it can I fix it? What would it take?

If you bought it recently...maybe the printhead was taped together to prevent damage during transit or something like that.

Well, either the traverse (belt/pulleys) system is jammed or slipped the track, the traverse motor is burned out or the the traverse motor driver circuitry is burned out. Only one in three is easy and inexpensive to fix - if it was the easy one, would he be selling it? The die is to you...

Does the head "not move" when it's supposed to, or does it appear stuck when you're trying to move it manually? The latter would be normal.

Canon printer parts are reasonably priced (repair/service businesses only, no end users), but you'll need a clue first.

The machine should give you an error code (via display or blink code) that provides a first hint to the underlying problem. Without such information, I'd say hands off.

Thanks everyone, for some reason this thread's reply count wasn't updating in My Forums. Or maybe it's just me. Anyway I think I will call the seller up and see if they'll let me at least take a look at it, maybe I can get an error message or code out of it.
