My steady eight year old Canon MP640 just started giving an "Inner cover is open" error. Thing is that it isn't open, or at least not apparently so, and thus far opening and closing the covers firmly and pressing OK hasn't solved it. Nor did powering down and back up with a few minutes between. Since Canon no longer gives free support for this one, I'll ask here if anyone has an idea what to do. Thanks,

Not sure what happened, but while looking for a reset button -- there doesn't seem to be one -- I turned the printer off and when it restarted the error message disappeared and a scan went through. Not sure what to make of it, but I'll take it...

Sometimes these things just resolve themselves. :)

Probably has either a mechanical or optical sensing switch for the inner cover. If optical it might have just had some paper lint or dust on it, or if mechanical you could have it slowly failing or the mount it is on is cracked and intermittently holding it in the right position.

Thanks. I neglected to post here that powering down for awhile again reset it back to normal.

I caught that, but whatever caused it in the first place, that problem could return.
