I roan out of some ink for my Canon MP500. I don't have ink to replace it with, but I still want to scan with it. It won't let me scan because the ink message will not go away. anyone know if there's a way you can get it to work like that?

I am an MP500 owner but have not been in this situation.

A few suggestions though:

Are you scanning from the software or directly from the printer control pad, try from the other one.

Have you tried removing the cartridges or if you have removed the cartridges do you still have them available to put back in and maybe trying like that.

i've tried both ways. the printer itself will not let me do anything. it looked like the software side might work, but it just sits there at "please wait" or whatever it says and never scans.

well, here's the situation. one ink cart ran out. i did have replacement ink but it was ink i got from swiftink.com and it doesn't have the little computer chip on it. they give you instructions to swap the chip, and i did follow that, but it didn't work. i also can't put it back on the old cart now either. so i guess i have to wait until my official canon ink arrives.

its not really that big of a deal. its not something important i need to do anyway.
