Canon G5 - Should I sell it and get myself a new Digital Rebel? Or something similar?

It depends how serious you are about photography.

Only get the Rebel if you consider yourself a true "amateur photographer."
Yeah, I haven't used a Rebel, mind you, but this is what I understand it to be.

I have a G3 myself, and it's more than enough camera for me (for the moment).

I used to own all the SLR gear a few years back and then decided to go digital. Of course I convinced myself that it would be better. While I love the quality of pics I get from my G5, the Rebel would od so much more in the terms of lenses and what not, plus speed and Megapixel.

What are they running for?

That's not a question we can answer. You have to ask yourself: do the pictures I want to take warrant a dSLR? Do I know enough about photography to properly use an SLR? Do I have the budget to buy additional lenses?

It shouldn't be about a pissing contest. It should be about what equipment you are most comfortable with to take the best pictures you think you are possible of taking.

one thing I do love about the G5 is the panoram software that comes with it, not sure if the Rebel offers this as well but it rocks!

Check it out here:

It isnt a pissing contest, who said it was?
I was just wondering how people who own one like it. And if they had sample photos, that would be great too, I can take a great picture with my G5, but as i stated before SLR would allow me to do so much more like I used to when I owned all of my old SLR equipment. The cost might be the main factor.

My brother's girlfriend just picked him up a G5 for Christmas.

I am insanely jealous. My A60 is starting to not cut it anymore already. 😛

Yup! know all about that, I went to photography school for two years...graduated and then never used anything I learned since I got into IT. 🙂
I have some great regular photos here on paper, but scanning them in does them no justice in my opinion.
