THE DEAL IS ON NOW! I just order one. Hope they won't cancel my order. For $100, it is a steal. I need a copier and a fax, this is the perfect unit (overkill?) for me :)

FYI, sold out is by zip code. So if you know of some nearby, non-same-zip-code friends, might wanna ask them if you can ship to them. My college, about a half hour from my home was in stock, while my home zip was out.

Just an FYI.

What kind of ink cartridges and how much do they cost?

At Staples: ~ $13 (black) ~ $11 color

Megatoners? ~ $3 (but I'm not sure if it's the right model). Can somebody confirm?

Yeah if it shows up OOS just keep trying to re-add it to cart, I was able to do that for my zip. Whether or not it will actually ship is another question entirely. BTW this was the highest-ranked multi-printer in the last Consumer Reports printer roundup mostly due to print quality and low cost of consumables. Others have said that Windows XP printer sharing does not work with this printer but there are updated drivers on Canon's website, I am going to attach it to a Win98Se box and see how well it shares...

Woot! I just got in on this deal. Had to keep adding to cart until it let me have it :) Took a little while of adding and then trying to check out.

Seems like a pretty good deal for a decent multi-function device...

Delivery Fee: $0.00
Coupon 77000: -$100.00 Staples Coupon

BUYERS beware.

I just checked out some reviews from amazon and found out that this thing does not support network printer sharing. Therefore becareful if you intend to share this printer with, especially a PC running WinXP.

I called in for one but will most likely cancel it.

does the networking thing work through an winxp machine with the newer drivers? are people that are saying it doesn't work using the older drivers?

FWIW you can very easily work around the non-sharing prob (if true) by using XP's remote desktop feature - just save the file to your print server's drive then remote display your server and print from it. Also easy to do with VNC if you have a mixed environment (incl. Linux etc.). YES this is not as handy as printing directly from your client PC and it requires your print server to not be otherwise in use when printing but is a fair workaround. For a $400 printer/copier/fax/scanner that I'm only paying $100 for, it's worth the (potential) hassle.

I saw it recently at Costco for $250, but at $100 it's still a hell of a deal, I ordered one this morning too.

OK, so what's the deal with this machine... I've read that is doesn't work over the network, then I've read other comments that says that it does. I realize the scanner/fax probably won't work over a network, but I'd really like to be able to print from other machines on my network.

Is it the case that you just need to have the host pc turned on in order for over the network printing to work? If so, that works for me! I have 2 xp boxes and a win2k laptop...

Thanks!

my local b&m had one on clearance for 199, is it worth it?? is there anything for in store use?? pm me if u know

EDIT: Well I scored, found a printable and went back to b&m to apply it to my purchase. Cashier rang up the original one as a discount not a coupon so they applied the new coupon ON TOP of the original "discount".

Not true - I have this device and the printer at least can be shared and accessed as a shared printer from xp, 2k, me and 98. I did not try the scanner but assume that it too is "shareable"
