Canon F1.8 50 MM, where to buy?

So I'm trying to pick up the Canon Thrifty Fifty or whatever it's called, and people keep mentioning that it's like a 60-70 dollar lens, however the best price I've seen so far is 90 bucks. Has the price gone up signfigantly, or am I looking in the wrong place here?

Also, I'd like to get a line on a decently made but not horribly expensive lens bag. I've got a nice case for my Rebel T1i and an attached lens, but I'm looking for a bag that'll hold a blower, lenspen, extra battery, and two lenses (One of which will be the EFS 55-250mm)

Any suggestions? Thanks.

That is the used price you are hoping for.

Yeah - I got that lens about 5 years ago for about $70. Today it goes from $99 to $125 - even on EBay. If you can get it for $90, that's a good price.

Careful where you buy though. If it's from a company in New York, they may try to sell you the "real" version for $300. They are known to try to scam people like that.

I like the Lowepro Flipside 300 backpack. It's great for when I cover marathons and it holds two pro bodies, my 70-200 and a backup lens with my essentials. It's not all-weather like the 400AW from Lowepro, but I just bring a garbage bag for when the rain comes. :) It is about $75 at B&H Photo Video.

That's too broad of a generalization. B&H, Adorama, J&R are all reliable New York-based camera stores. There are several smaller shops, many in Brooklyn, that are scam shops though.

As for the OP, the price has gone up. I bought my nifty-fifty for $70 new at J&R a few years ago. Odd how I can now sell that same lens for profit.

For the bag, you should also point out what "not horribly expensive" means and whether you prefer a shoulder bag or backpack. Canon makes affordable version of both and they both get good reviews. I have a Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home bag. Great bag, but gets heavy when fully loaded. I'd probably go for a backpack type if I were to do it again.

I bought mine from newegg when it was 95. I don't think you're going to find it at a retailer for around 60.

I've seen mostly around 70. Every so often I see 60. But I don't think i've seen it as high as 85. I need to find where that is so I can sell mine, haha.

That's crazy...I wouldn't even consider giving more than $75 for it. POS lens.

it's not perfect, but even for $85... that's really hard to beat for what you get.

No, you should be able to find them for $50 used. Check the photography on the net forums. Check craigslist. I paid $50 for mine. For lens bags, grab those thick socks from costco! Or a crown royal bag! :)

There's 2 that sold on the POTN forum today for $85 shipped. Both used.

Yes, but those include shipping and you're probably getting a pristinely cared for one that will be in immaculate condition. :) Which is obviously a good thing (potn forums are awesome).

However, you can easily get a well used copy for $50 on craigslist.

I just searched my local craigslist area for "50mm". There's one on the first page. $50.
