I know the feeling, I really really want this lens, but don't have enough to cover it, someday, someday. Was hoping someone else would feel lucky and get this!

It seems plausible that it's a "white-box" model. As in someone is separating this 24-105 kit lens from the camera and selling them separately from one another? I know that happens sometimes in Pentax-world. Or maybe a grey market item?

That's actually a common thing that resellers do. And if for any reason you don 't think its on the up and up, you can return it easily if you also have Prime!
This is a great walk around lens!

Make sure to check if you're getting warranty with this. Canon's warranty is void if you buy their stuff from unauthorized sellers. IMHO, no warranty is fine, as long as the price reflects that.
