I am currently using the following on my EOS-20D:

Canon EFS 10-22
Tamron 28-75 F2.8
Sigma 30 F1.4

I am going to order the new EF 24-105 F4L pretty soon.

What I need next is a good (but light weight) telephoto. I am still having a really hard time deciding between the Canon EF 70-200 F4L and Canon EF 70-300 IS. The former is an "L" and is cheaper than the latter. The latter gives you an extra 100mm and IS. Both are good travel lenses with the 70-300 IS being a little lighter, a little shorter, and is not white.

How is that 30 F1.4? I'm really finding the 50 F1.8 I have a little awkward in tight spots. With the crop factor it's hard to get things into frame. Could use a bit more width in my lens.

As for my lineup -

Kit lens
Canon "Fantastic Plastic" 50 F1.8
Sigma 70-200 F2.8 (great lens for the $$)
Sigma 1.4x TC

On top of the wider angle prime, I want to get a good macro lens and an upgrade from the kit lens for a good walk around.

How is that Tamron 28-75?

50 mm 1.8
Kit Lens 18-55
Russian Zenitar 16mm fisheye
Sigma 70-300

and currently in my bag, canon 28-135 IS (though i'm borrowing it from a friend :) )

100mm f/2.8 macro (1:1 magnification)
50mm f/1.8 (a decent lens for 60 bucks imo =\)
22-55mm f/4-5.6
28-105mm f/4-5.6

i really want something wider than 22mm is about hte only complaint i have with my setup. the 1.6 factor kills the wide angle effect of the 22mm lens. the 100mm lens is a nice telephoto for the digital cameras with 1.6 factor, and it is verrry fast as well. i use the digital rebel xt btw.

The EFS 10-22 is a fantastic and fun lens!

I'd go for the 70-200L you can always get a tele converter and add that to it giving you a max of 400mm.

I absolutely love my 1.4. Very good lens for available light photography if you can focus it good. It's a very sharp lens too.

I use these two lenses with my Digital Rebel XT:

The Canon kit 18-55 F3.5-5.6 lens that comes with the camera
Canon 28-200 USM F3.5-5.6

50mm 1.8 mk1 (metal mount baby)
85mm 1.8 ... just got it, I'm really liking it.
18-50 2.8 EX DC sigma. I love it.. but I need to play with it more.. even tho i've had it for forever.
70-300 4-5.6 APO Macro Super II. an ok lens, I'm much too shaky to use it well tho (and lacking skill)

want:
70-200 IS
a good 1:1 or better macro lens
a nice 12-15mm fisheye
some photographic skill
some post processing skill
20D :)

The F/1.8 lens is junk. Sure it's cheap, but you can get much sharper lens for the price.
Check out the old M42 mount takumar lens. They cost about $25-50 for the 50mm F/1.4, depending if you get the single coated or the super multi coated. But the $25 single coated one will easily kick the F/1.8's butt. You can get an M42 to EOS adapter for like $10. These lens are very popular with canon cameras. Their quality is just unbeatable.

This site has some sample comparisons between the Canon 50mm F/1.8 and the Super Takumar 50mm F/1.4 that costs $25 on ebay.

Hmm thanks for that, think i'm going to sell my S1IS and 18-55 and get a 50mm f/1.4 with the money. Hopefully it'll be worth it!

It'll be good if you want the autofocus. But the lens quality won't be any better, it'll probably be much closer. Plus you don't get the solid build quality from lens of the pre-plastic era. Super smooth focusing metal lens.
Hey but it'll probably be a pain in the arse to manual focus with the cheap viewfinder of the digital rebel, unless you have the 20D.
