Canon Digital Rebel

I have the Canon Digital Rebel camera. My parents are going to Alaska are interested in taking my camera but I need to buy some kind of zoom lense for it.

I have no idea what I'm looking for except that it needs to zoom and be around $300.00.

Just get a 75-300 USM. Its about $220

EDIT: I assume you already have the lens that comes with the kit or did you buy just a body?

How far does this zoom?

I bought the Sigma 75-300 lense and it is pretty good for the price. It could stand to be a tad sharper around the edges.

I like Canon lenses but Sigma is pretty good from my understanding. I think they focus a tad slower tho and it bit more noise. For this type of lens there isn't a huge price difference.

whatever Canons 70-300mm model is or whatever is closest, the sigma 70-300 super Macro 2 is really nice as well, and it can do macro

300mm is far, and with the 1.6x crop factor on the Dreb it becomes ~450mm

This was taken with my Nikon 70-300 @ 300 on my D70 the canon will be the same

I agree on the noise and focus, but that really was not an issue for me, because I never use my zoom for taking action shots that need fast focus.

I would just buy the Sigma 70-300mm APO (Version 2). It goes for less than $180 (got mine for $154) and provides you with an opportunity to make some really nice photos.

personally the sigma 135-400 isnt bad for teh price, its a tad more then you rbuget but its got a nice reach and its not that slow

you coudl alwaus go for the big daddy of lenses the Sigma 50-500 f/ 4-6.3 seen here only 1000$

yes, f-stop is apture size the lenses a 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens has an appature of 4 at 70mm and 5.6 at 300mm and something in the middle invetween the 2

the 120-300 f.2.8 has teh same apature at 120mm as it does at 300mm, which is why its so expensive

its the 70-300 G

the 70-300ED version has 1 and i repeat 1 ED glass in it, and offeres no real advantage over the G one, unless you really need that apature ring its not worth it, i have used both, and there is no niticable difference in the pics

Can anyone explain the how to read the lense specs.?

I don't understand how 70-200mm is better than 75-300mm.
