I think it?s a pretty cool deal.

Canon PowerShot S100 (Digital Elph - 2.1 Mpixel)

List: $699
Staples: $499 (sku 437842)
Compdirect.com: $399 (they run on M$, down a lot :)
Price match and use ?$30 coupon code: $369! (free shipping too)

I?ve been shopping for a lightweight digital camera for a while and came down to 3, Sony DSC-P1 ($640 street), Fuji 4700 ($500 street), and the Canon Digital Elph. For $369 and the crown of the world?s smallest digital camera, the choice was easy. Lightweight was my #1 goal, so this is the perfect choice for me. See reviews here. Review1 Review2 Review3

And Staples also has the Canon S100 soft case for only $8.99 (sku 380981)! Many online stores charge $20-30 (crazy!)

The only accessory I?m looking for now is the cool silver chain that Canon makes for this camera. I?ve seen it in kits, but not sold separately.

And you can find 64 meg compact flash memory on Pricewatch for like $68! I?m just not sure about brands like AVB. Anyone have any experience with it?

For good reviews on most cams, go here.

I would opt for the S20... 1 more MP, and you're going to have to buy the rechargeable LiOn.
Canon S-series all have a characteristic bluish green cast to them (slight), necessitating either software fix or in-camera white balance (a feature the S-series doesn't have).

Don't go with the Sony... no memory buffer = snap, wait, wait, snap, wait, wait...

My bad... the Digital Ixus (S100) does NOT support Microdrive, but the S10 and S20 do.

BTW, CF prices are supposed to drop a lot this year.

Make sure you get the new firmware.

Here's some info from the PMA show regarding Canon's new additions to their line... probably the reason some prices are dropping.

Wow! That is a good price! That's bout what I paid for the camera back in November w/ the MSN Passport discount and the PhotoAlley coupon. Awesome little camera. Not much bigger than a pack of cigarettes.

If you get the camera, I recommend getting an accessory kit instead of paying for an extra battery AND the soft case. It comes with a battery, soft case, and metal neck strap. This place called Jack's Cameras by my house(Orange County) sells it for about $50, where as batteries themselves sell for around $50-60. As for only 2.1 Megapixels, its enough for me. I still can't tell the difference in picture quality between regular photos and digital prints.
