Lots of places have the SD500 for even lower - under $400. Am I missing something?

you might be becuz most of those stores that sells SD500 under $400 have poor ratings.

why did they make the SD500 look the way it does w/ that curved egde. They shoulda just stuck with the SD300/400 body...best looking in my opinion.

It has a bigger lens than the SD300/400. The 300/400 lenses are the same size, so it fit the same body.

My friend has the SD500 and it's only a little bit bigger than the other two.

The sd500 is going on sale since Canon announced the sd550 at $499. Look for stores to be selling out their inventory. See the article on Anandtech main page.
Also have a 350 and 450 coming out I think.
