Canon digicam E18 error?

Have any of you experienced this? Apparently it's a widespread problem, and I was wondering if it was something that I should take into consideration when purchasing a digital camera.
edit: link1 link2 link3

I found another good link last night but can't find it again.

Anyway, supposedly after getting it you usually have to send it back to Canon to get replaced.

Triple check battery contact and then report back if ok...

I read that someone stuck a dime between the battery and contact and it worked but this was not confirmed.

I had received it, replaced the batteries and all was fine again. Canon A70 here.

Camera doesn't seem to give any warning about battery level, then you get the error suddenly. That was my experience anyway. Like I said, replaced the batteries and it was fine again.
