Canon Announces Replacement of PowerShot A75

so they cut out the batteries to make it lighter? As it was i didnt think it had the best battery life. I'd almost prefer they went to a lithium ion recharable design like Nikon (and i'm sure other manufacturers)

other than that and the 4x zoom (up from 3) -- doesnt seem much differnent. Both the A70 and A75 were very nice camera and i'm sure the 510 will do well. I dont mind SD memory, and i figure most people would be buying the 510 as an entry level camera so they most likely dont have tons of CF cards laying around that they would want to reuse.

bout time they went to SD. ALthough CF is nice because of the availablity and cheapness of the larger sizes. But why would they continue to make 3mp cameras? I would think 4 or 5 would be the minimum you'd want nowadays to compete with Kodak and the other cheapies. I know people say that quality-wise a Canon 3MP is as good as a 5MP kodak, but your average consumer shops by MP like they do with PC's and Mhz.

Maybe they don't want those tech-support calls.

Yeah - my A75 lasts FOREVER on one set of 4 batteries. Several months.

Canon PowerShot A510.

What, a new naming system being kicked off with this one?

Edit: Also looks like Canon is moving away from CF-based memory cards for all their entry-level digicams and going to SD-based.

Why does Canon still limit the time for movie mode to 30secs for 640x480? Why can't they just make it based on the amount of space you have left on your memory card? I prefer my camcorder but the movie mode on the camera is nice to have for when I don't have my camcorder with me.

I agree.

I guess you have to buy the PowerShot S1 IS for that?

heh.

Wow though. I really like some of the features. I think it looks pretty slick too.

4x zoom = :thumbsup::thumbsup:
13% smaller = :thumbsup:
20% lighter = :thumbsup:
Zoom flash = :thumbsup::thumbsup: - just for the "cool" factor.
Gmo lens technology = :thumbsup:
Floating lens barrel = :thumbsup:
2AA batteries = :thumbsup:

SD/MMC = :thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

Oh well. 7:1.. you win some, you lose some. Pisses me off that I'd have to buy a new memory card though.

Oh well, I'm saving for a DSLR anyway.. so fsck that PowerShot sh!t. 😛
