canon a70 or s50??

ok, i already have an a70 and love it. i have the option, however, to basically upgrade from the a70 to the s50 by trading by a70 and $150 for an s50. should i do it. i know it has a lot more megapixels, but is it worth the extra $150?

I suggest you check out the reviews for both camera's on Steve's Digicams.

A70
S50

He's got sample images from both cameras. I've got a Powershot A40, so I'm probably a bit out of my league here, but I'd say stick with the PowerShot unless you have a compelling reason to get the S50 (say, advanced photo/exposure features). Also, the $150 isn't too much of a bargain if you compare prices on PriceGrabber.

for the extra $150, i'd go ahead and do it. the S50 could be one of the last cameras you'll need for a few years. it has about everything and lacks about nothing. manual controls are good and it has those presets which your a70 should have. steve's digicams is a great place to read on features and such, but it doesn't really list many of the bad things.

thanks for the advise guys. i have a couple of follow up questions.
is there a site that does point out negative things since stece's doesnt? ive read a little about each but havent found a whole lot of reviews. at this point i am leaning towards the s50, because like bravo261 said, i probably wont need to replace it for a few years. ive enjoyed the a70 for the month or so that i had it, and i cant help but think the s50 will be even better. i just need to decide if its $150 worth of better.
also, according to pricegrabber, theres a $200 difference.

You can check this site for what actual users have to say about the cameras. Also check out what Epinion have to say about the S50. Sorry about Pricegrabber...guess I can't subtract at 1 in the morning 🙂

I'd look at what you actually use it for. I just got the A70 for our first digital camera. Frankly its features are overkill for our simple needs and I imagine it will be years, if ever, before we outgrow this camera, or even use 10% of its features.

If you need what the other camera offers, and it looks like a good deal to you, go for it. Otherwise, stick with what you got-its a great camera.

PS-give some thought as to whether you lose your warranty be trading. I suspect so, but don't know.
