They both look great. The advantage of the Minolta is that is is about $20 cheaper, has 1 more megapixel and 1 more optical zoom... 4x vs. 3x. Any thoughts?

Personally, Canon S400. IF you go to any of the web reviews, Minoltas aren't even considered. The A70, S230, and S400 are all top rated. Second in line are the Sonys.

minolta cameras are nice - just check the reviews. if size does not matter that much, i would go with the minolta.

I think it comes down to if you want more control over the camera, the Canon A70 has lots of controls like shutter priority etc ,more then the Minolta model.

In the end what is more important to you,1MP extra and 4X optical zoom or more control settings that the Canon A70 has and smaller size,I guess it`s really your call, eitherway both cameras are good.

the s414 has the same amount of manual control as the a70. bascially all it comes down to is size vs zoom and one extra mp.

Save your money another month and get the S400. I read the reviews and then went to Best Buy and picked the little baby up. I did have to make rent and pay car insurance though so right now its still just a fantasy about getting it home naked..
