Canon A60 vs. A70

I'm really torn here. I don't think I'll be able to get in on the A70 deal @ officemax for under $300, but for $313.50 after tax for the A70 and a 128 meg CF card, I might bite. However, Beachcamera.com has the A60 for $189 + $13 s/h. Looking at DPReview.com shows the A60 to be identical to the A70 in everything except for resolution. I generally do not print large pictures, but I do appreciate fine details (I'm mostly upgrading from my 2mp HP315 because it does not do macro). Most of my macro pictures will be of computer hardware and they will be cropped. Since the CCD of these cameras is the same size, how much better will the A70 be than the A60? Worth $110 more?

Actually there's another difference besides resolution. Apparantlly the A60 doesn't have the same movie capturing capability as the A70 either.

I also read that, but I don't plan on capturing any video with either of these cameras, so that's not of any consequence to me.

Well yes...but see if you can get a better deal on the A70. Try fatwallet.com forums hot deals for instance.

I decided to wait anyway, likely until another deal with the A70 comes along. I'm still able to borrow a G2 when the need for macro arises, so I'm not dying. 🙂

I got my A70 from OfficeMax for $200 few months back and I am loving it. Has tons of features and it takes great images. Battery life is outstanding, it even comes with set of great batteries.

Happy owner of an A70. As I recall (and I am not positive about this) Canon is very strict about only honoring warranties from authorized resellers. That may be something to factor into your decision making process.

There have been a ton of A70 deals in the last few months. Keep your eyes open. And buy the extra memory-the card that comes with it is too small to be of much use.
