Sooo, I'm getting an A70 kit for xmas off ebay (A70 + 128MB card + compact tripod + USB CF Reader + Compact Tripod + 5 piece camera and lens cleaning kit + Camera Case + Battery charger with batteries)

I talked my fiancees father into buying an A70 as well =) He did a Staples Hot deal last night for an A70 and did a 256 CF card hot deal as well.

I have a couple of questions, requests for those of you who use these type of cameras...

**1st question: Here is the description of the battery charger and batteries included in my xmas gift: "1800 Mah 8Battery charger with 8 AA Batteries. Model # ch-3600. For NiCD and NiMH batteries. Includes 8 AA rechargeable NiMH 1800 Mah batteries. Works with AA and AAA batteries. High performance for high drain devices. Environmentally friendly!" What does that stuff mean? Is the 1800 how much of a charge the battery holds? (Versus 2100 mah, etc). I did a google for ch-3600 and it looks to be a $95ish battery kit, anyone know if its any good?

**2nd question: What is the learning curve of an A70? I have a point and shoot camera now, but I understand the A70 will give me some intermediate camera options. Do I just put the camera in action mode when there is a fast moving object I'm taking a picture of? Night mode for night pictures? Is there an online guide to help me learn how to really maximize the use of this camera? Thanks fellers.

1) AFAIK, the higher the battery rating (i.e. 2100mah as opposed to 1800) the longer it lasts between recharges.
2) I dont think there is that big of a learning curve with the A70. It is relatively easy to use given the amount of features it has. If all you want to do is point and shoot then the pre-programmed stuff is fine for you (i.e. fast action, night shot, portrait, etc.)....the manual programming modes just allow you to tweak those modes a bit, and that does take a lil getting accustomed (sp?) to. But if you arent going to be using those then the A70 is a great easy to use camera.

No idea about the batteries, but the learining curve isn't too bad. The A70 can be as "auto" or as "manual" as you like. Leave it on full-auto if you're lazy or use one of the presets (action, portrait, etc) if you want. You can also set it to where it will auto-adjust based on a particular setting that you choose (ie- you set the apeture as you like and the camera adjust everything else around that apeture setting). You can also go full-manual.

Aperture

Indicates how open or shut the light's entranceway to the film is. The numbers shown (f/stops 1.8, 2.8, 4.0, 5.6, ...) are chosen so that changing the aperture from one setting to the next changes the amount of light striking the film by a factor of two. The higher the number, the smaller the opening.
With the A70, you can set this manually and the camera set the shutter speed accordingly. Or, you can set the shutter speed manually and the camera will do the aperture.

For example: I was trying to get some low-light action shots of me on the local velodrome and the action preset wasn't allowing enough light in for a decent-looking picture so I had to mess with the aperture and shutter speed manually until they came out better. I have the end result (still not great) posted on pics.bbzzdd but it seems to be down right now. :(

How'd you do that? I know I'm gonna need a better memory card than the 16mb standard card.

I've got a Canon A70 sitting under the Christmas tree that I can't touch for 14 more days! (we do our presents on Christmas eve) I'm dying to play with it. :D

A70.. is it mee or is it hard to take shots with it? I had no roblems with my G2, but with the A70, its most of the time blurly... is it just my camera or the weight difference?? :?
