First half of 2010 eh? Makes you wonder what kind of jerry-rigged software solution they are coming up with to fix the camera's hardware deficiency.

Haha! Is it too much to ask for a camera that does 1080p at 24P & 60P with a full-frame sensor? :D

Colour me surprised. I was predicting they would not release this even though I was sure they were working on it.

What this suggests to me though is that the 5D Mark II probably won't be replaced for quite some time. The 1080p24 update keeps the 5D II from being Osborned, and this would be necessary if they weren't going to replace it until say 2011.

It's not an impediment if you take pleasure in converting all your 1080p30 footage to 24p.

The 7D supported 1080p24 from the get-go because the hardware was designed to support that framerate. 24p wasn't merely a "deleted" firmware entry in the 5D2, otherwise we would have seen support for it 6 months ago (if not when the camera launched).

1080p24 is not PAL.

1080p25 is PAL (which will also be supported, so that's a big deal too for the Europeans and Chinese).

Did Canon run over your mom?

Not to mention 30p->24p is a mess (24p->30p is just fine). There are existing workflows for 30p->24p, but they ain't pretty...people don't understand that you can't just "take out" frames and have it look the way you want :D

yeah, given how long the 5dmkI ran... heh. But they won't let it go that long again I wouldn't think. They might be waiting to try and trump the "D800" announcement. Assuming they didn't take Nikon for granted again....
