Looking to pick up a mid-range flash for some non-professional portrait work (friends, family, etc) for my 7D.

I'm leaning towards the Sigma, as it seems like I can get more features for a better price, but I'm not 100% convinced yet.

Anybody have any input? Going to pull the trigger on one or the other fairly soon here, to snag the discount on the Canon before the rebates end tonight.

I spent two years with the Sigma EF500DG....the 530's precursor. Sigma's EX flashes are very good, and I highly recommend them. Lots of usable options with a ton ofpower for not much money.

I've used the 500DG Super, didn't like it. Refresh rate was quite slow compared to the Canon 550EX. I was missing a lot of shots. Plus it actually burnt its own plastic lens...

I'm too afraid of Sigma's build quality and reliability. Its a decent budget flash without a lot of power. But the new 430EX II and the 580EX II have so many nice features, it's hard to pass up. The silent cycling alone is worth it to go Canon.
