I recently purchased a Gateway laptop from Best Buy (I know :-\ ). The first and foremost thing I did was format all partitions on the hard drive and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Professional... little did I know that they no longer supply you with a copy of the Restore/Driver cd; so I am out of luck on that (Will have to order one direct from Gateway).
So I get to Windows, and sure enough, there are a lot of missing drivers. However, I can still use the thing, including the regular wired 10/100 network device; but my wireless, sound, and 3D card are all fritzy. While the sound and video I can probably deal without for now, I would really like the wireless to work.
I found who manufactured my card and tried to download drivers for it, and also used Gateway's updater program. I downloaded the drivers suggested for my model and when the hardware installation is complete, I get the error "This device cannot start (code 10)." I'm assuming this is because they are the incorrect drivers?
Anyway, I was hoping any of you might have had experience with this and knew of a workaround or a solution to get the wireless working again. Is there a doctor in the house?
P.S. Gateway does not have any driver downloads on their website for the model I purchased (maybe it is too new?).
Also I apologize for my post count newbieness, been watching the forums for a long time now but not really an active poster; my apologies.
