Im using the latest version of WMP and for some reason:

1. The videos that have worked for the longest time dont have sound anymore.
2. Many downloaded videos, will work HOWEVER if I skip ahread even 1 second the sound dissapears and I never see it again.
3. Some videos I cannot skip ahead period, if I close the media player, it will not allow me to skip back to the place it was at before I closed it.

Any help appreciated. Thanks

I just tried it with WMP11 - no problem. I used this methodology:

1. Press play.
2. Press Pause
3. Move slider to a new location.
4. Press Play. It starts right up with sounds.
5. Press Pause.
6. Return to original start point
7. Press Play - it starts right up with sound.

????

How did you create these WMVs? This was a running bug with an older version of my editor where WMVs created inside the editor would lose the audio if you did as described. As an experiment, download Windows Media Encoder 9 from here. After it is installed, in the Utilities folder of the Windows Media Start menu, run Windows Media File Editor. Load the WMV. Then "Save As and Reindex". Try a different name as a comparison.

See if that does not fix the file. If so, it was an error in the source on how it was created.

I have this exact problem with some downloaded WMV's in Windows Media Player. VLC solves the problem for me, try playing them with that.

You are saying that upon installing WMP11 you are having these problems, correct? What was your version of WMP prior to this upgrade?

1. Have you installed any codecs or splitters lately?
2. Not sure about this. Sounds like a splitter (demultiplexer 'codec') issue.
3. WMVs require an index for WMP's seeking method. Not all have an index, however players like VLC or Mplayer Classic can use an older, slower seeking method.
