I have a small network of 6 systems and 1 server. I have mixed O/Ses in them. The Server and 2 other systems have Win2k pro and the others have Win98se. A Printer is connected to a system having Win2k pro. I can share it with systems having the same O/S. But I cannot share it with systems having Win98se.
When I add a network printer in those systems, I am asked for a password to open the computer having the printer. But I haven't set any password.
I have installed all the necessary drivers for the printer. It works fine with systems having Win2kpro.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

You can either set the permissions on the share and allow everyone for the printer, but most likely you are going to have to log into the 98 machines with the same username/passowrd as the 2k machines.
If you have no password, then use the username to log into the 98 machines, if you didnt set one (shame on you), then log into the 98 machines as administrator. My guess is you cant share files between those machines either.

In addition to what mboy was saying, you don't necessairly have to log onto the Win98 machines with the same names you do with the 2k machines, but in the Users bit of Control Panel on the 2k machines you need to have the same username/password that you're logging onto the 98 machines with.

I dont think he is logging into ANY of his machines with a username or password, but if he does, that certainly would do the trick :)

I can share files between 98 machines. And I have different usernames on different machines. And I am logging into all machines using those usernames. But I can't access any files of printers from Win98 machines only on two Win2k machines. But I can access everything on the other Win2k machine. I don't understand why.

on the 2k machines, you have to add the usernames/passwords to that machine from all the other ones u use to log into the other machines.
98 is MUCH different then 2k.

But on one Win2k machine, I didn't add any other username & passwords. But its files and printer can be accessed by every other systems including the Win98 machines.

Why is this so?

You probably have the share set to share to everyone with full control .
