Cannot run defrag on my computer

When I click on the button to analyze the partition, I get this message.

Defragmentation of (D🙂 has been aborted due to to inconsistencies that were detected in the filesystem. Please run CHKDSK or SCANDISK on (D🙂 to repair these inconsistencies, then run Disk Defragmenter again.

Does anyone know what this means? I ran the error-checking tool and after phase two it said it had to close.

Start your PC with your XP install disk...navigate to the Repair Counsol..run c:\chkdsk /r...be paitent, it takes a while to run this.

you don't even need to do that, as I'm guessing your D: drive isn't your boot device. You can just go to a dos prompt and run chkdsk d: /f

Click the Start button, then click on Run, and a box comes up. Put in cmd.exe and click OK, and now you got a command-line box that you can run the command in.

My defragging stopped working as well. I went and got PerfectDisk and never looked back (much faster with more features - can be installed on multiple machines). I think it was 29.99.
