In 'My Computer', when I right click my CD Writer (Plextor) drive, Windows Explorer hangs, and never comes back. I have to kill it with the Task Manager. If I go to Settings->Control Panel->System->Device Manager and click Properties for the Plextor drive, I do not get the custom Plextor tabs on the top. A week ago, this was not a problem. Since then, I have switched hard drives, and run fdisk/format and installed an OS fresh. I have Norton System Works installed, and I thought that might have something to do with this problem. I disabled all Norton programs in the startup and rebooted and the problem is still there.
System:
Plextor 8432 set up as master on IDE Primary port (hard drives are set up using an IDE controller) and alone on an IDE cable.
Firmware: upgraded from 1.07 to 1.09
Windows 98 SE
Pentium II 266Mhz
192MB RAM
Any ideas on this?
