Cannot read HD

Hi guys, i recently changed two of my internal HDs to external using external hd enclousures. however, after i installed everything, i cannot access the hard drives. I dont want to format them due to the fact that i have alot of data on both. does anyone know what i can do to solve this issue? one of my friends was mentioning i can fix the problem by using linux...thanks in advance

You say you cannot access them. When you plug them in, does windows make the sound like a device has been plugged in?

Some old external enclosures required a driver, even for XP.

While most external enclosures recommend setting the drive to master, try cable select and slave just see if it makes a difference.

Are you plugging them directly into the usb ports on the computer, or are you using an external hub? I've seen some drives not work on hubs. Usually these hubs have been the unpowered type.

By chance are these drives partitioned as dynamic drives? If so they will need to be imported in disk management.
