cannot put my computer on standby

My computer all of a sudden doesnt have the standby option when i go to turn off the computer from the start button. I think this happened after i installed a cdrw. I would really like to have standby option cuz my computer is loud and it is much quieter on standby.

Try checking power options. Open display properties in control panel or right click desktop and left click properties, click "Screen Saver" tab, click "Power" button to bring up "Power Options Properties" window, at the bottom tell us what the option is set to. Mine is set to "Never" but my standby is still enabled. On the advanced tab I have the box unchecked that says "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby". Might also have something to do with BIOS settings.
