I have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop and it is 3 months old. I travel alot and while in the hotel I would like to play my iPOD through the Dell Laptop.

The laptop has two jacks - one has the microphone symbol and the other has the headphone symbol. When I connect the ipod to the microphone jack and then unmute all items I still cannot hear anything playing on my iPOD.

I do not have that problem with my stereo at home.

What can I do to make this work? I know the speaker on the laptop sucks, but it gets old wearing headphones all the time.

I think you'd have to plug it into a line-in jack in order for you to hear your Ipod through the laptop speakers.

don't think it'd work by plugging it into your mic jack. but try this.

try goign to the volume control panel and clicking on options>properties, and see if microphone is listed in the show following controls. if it is, check it. then back int he main volume panel uncheck mute for microphone and adjust volume.

see if that works

Or you can just sync all your music from the iPod to the laptop, or is hard disk space an issue?

Mic jacks are not line-level inputs - they have much higher levels of noise. Even if you did get it to work, it would sound like crap.
