Hey so I have a monitor and a tv and I want the tv to mirror the monitor display. However, the monitor is plugged into my GPU (hdmi) and I have the tv plug into motherboard (VGA) because the GPU doesn't have a VGA port. I know that the problem is that they are not plugged into the same device (one is the motherboard other is GPU) but I am wondering if there is a way to force the motherboard to display the GPU. If you have a solution please respond

why are you trying to mirror when they have different resolutions? just use dual display.

What screen resolution are you trying to use for both?

What kind of TV is this?

I've done this many times using a laptop, never a desktop with on board video AND an additional video card. If this is a CRT tv, you'll have to change your resolution to 800x600 or 1024x768. At least these are the only two resolutions i ever got to work with a few CRT tvs. If it's an lcd or plasma, then it depends on what the input port on it supports.

Which operating system are you trying this with?

Interesting topic. I wouldn't mind giving this a shot on the desktop this evening, as I am not entirely sure how Windows would respond.

You should be able to setup dual display with each running its native resolution.

Just drag whatever windwo you want on the tv to the secondary display.

Just did it on my setup below with an Asus 248H-P (digital connection to video card), and an Acer P221W (analog connection to the onboard video). Both are running their respective native resolutions. The Asus has the taskbar and icons, the Acer is just an extended desktop with a copy of the background image.

So, is yours doing this?

yes currently this is how i have it set up. the setting is called "extend these displays" and it does exactly that, my Asus monitor has the task bar and the Samsung tv is just another blank desktop with the background picture. however, im looking for the tv to mirror the display so that i have the task bar on both, ie the display is being mirrored. this is because they're in different rooms so dragging one window to another room essentially is somewhat a pain because then i can no longer see it. any look mirroring your displays with that setup??

What other setting do you have in the same list as extend display? Problem with mirroring is they have different resolutions and aspect ratio. So your video card has to scale everything, usually not an issue on one video card, two may require some playing with.

Umm if I understand your question correctly the only other options are "display on only 1" "display on only 2" or extend these displays

try getting the main display working on the TV with the 1360x768 resolution. If you are successful, the only way i can think of that you can mirror is to set your other display to 1360x768. Has to be the same resolution to mirror.

If the two resolutions are actually correct, your other display seems like an odd aspect ratio. did you mean 1920x1080 for that one? If so, the good news is your aspect ration will be pretty much the same so you will not have to be annoyed by black bars.

I will have to say that i'm not 100% sure you can mirror the displays with two different video cards. Right now i don't have a windows 7 box with two displays to try mirroring.
