Cannot make internet work

I hope somebody can help me resolve this cause I have no clues whats wrong.

My father in -law have this laptop computer he got from work, that works on a novel network and intranet. When we brings it at home, we want to be able to go to internet using the home's wireless router. Setting up the comuter to connect to the routher's signal is a breeze and works fine. However, when using for example internet explorer, it says "intranet" lower right corner of the screen and it goes fine to the organisation 's webpage. When trying any other website (msn, google, etc.) it simply wont load.

I have a feeling something somwhere is stuck looking for his work's infrastruture or something. BTW we logged using the "workstation only" setting to bypass the novel network authentification.

thanks for any help!

If this is a works computer, they might not be happy you playing around with it - for security reasons. (passwords etc)

Also, they don't know how secure your home network is, and, if you take the computer back to work and plug it into their network with viruses, then they would have a problem. Again, they wouldn't be happy.

If this was a gift from the company, or they have given you permission to play around with the settings, then ask their IT department.

tools / internet options /connections/ lan settings /

check that there isnt anything in automatically detect settings and use config script.

also check

start / run / cmd/ ipconfig /all

check that the default gateway and dns settings are showing your routers

if any of these settings are changed make sure you make a note of them or his IT guys might throw the laptop at him for meddling with it 🙂
