Cannot login to XP Pro on Macbook - Error: Specified domain does not exist

Dear experts,

I just installed XP SP2 to my macbook. However, I cannot login to Windows. The error message shows "Specified domain does not exist." I've followed others advice to disable prompting the login form. But, the same error message occurs.

Your advice is greatly appreciated!

p.s. I've help my friend installing XP on her IMac before and it works out just fine. The login screen never shows up.

This is an exact issue discussed at http://72.14.235.104/search?q=cache:ENL...st&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=9&client=firefox-a

Did you install using the same type of media on your friend's iMac - was it a genuine XP SP2 disc or have you slipstreamed SP2 manually?

hmmm, very odd. Did you get the usual prompts during installation about workgroup/domain settings, timezones and language settings?

Have you tried booting into "Safe Mode" (hit F8 key repeatedly during the boot process) and then verifying the Domain/Workgroup setting? Use the built-in "Administrator" account. The Administrator's password will either be blank or will be something you set during the XP install.

No, I did not get the prompts about workgroup/domain settings. I did get the prompt for timezones and language settings though. (I've done searches on google and found that for those experiencing the same issue stated that they also didn't get to set workgroup/domain and admin password. We were only asked to enter the "usernames" that different users will be using the computer.)

I did boot into safe mode but was unable to bypass the error message. I am about to try reinstalling windows again..
