I recently bought a D-link DIR 505 which is a router/repeater/wifi hotspot all combined in one. Now I followed instructions on how to configure this as a repeater: Switch the position to Repeater on the device, then plug it in, wait for the light to turn green, connect to the AP through the computer wirelessly and then log in to the device. Now this is where the problem. I can do everything well till connecting to it but I cannot seem to log on to the device. I can see its giving me an IP and the gateway is shown as 192.168.0.1. However, when I try and logon to this, I keep getting a "page cannot be reached". I tried connecting from a different machine but keep getting the same error. What am I doing wrong? Why can't I logon and configure? I tried switching it to the regular router/ap mode and tried again but got the same error. Any help would be appreciated.

You are probably wirelessly connected to the main router, since you have this in repeater mode...

Plug a network cable from a workstation into the device, set your IP to 192.168.0.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0, then try to connect to 192.168.0.1

what is the config on the main router? you will need this to setup in repeater mode, from the manual for repeater mode:

In Repeater Mode, the DIR-505 increases the range of your wireless network by extending the wireless coverage of another AP or wireless router. The APs and wireless router (if used) must be within range of each other. Make sure that all clients, APs,
and the wireless router all use the same SSID (wireless network name), channel, and security settings

And you'll need to give the repeater a unique IP on the routers subnet, and not in the DHCP range.

Actually no! The main router is on 192.168.1.1 and since this is brand new its not configured to "repeat" the main router signal. I know I connected to the right device because I can see the SSID of the device-created wireless network. I can see that the IP I'm being assigned is 192.168.0.x and the default gateway being shown is 192.168.0.1. My main router would've assigned me an IP of 192.168.1.x. To configure this device I need to access the web interface on the device which I'm not able to. I turned off the wireless on my notebook and connected the repeater through a cable. Still nothing.

Plug a network cable from a workstation into the device, set your IP to 192.168.0.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0, then try to connect to 192.168.0.1
I tried this. Didn't work. I had read on the open-wrt wiki that I can put the router in recovery mode and then upload a new firmware image using this very technique. I downloaded the updated firmware from the D-Link page and I could update the firmware. I could access this emergency recovery page.

what is the config on the main router?
The main router is on 192.168.1.1 and a subnet of 255.255.255.0
