Cannot log in, Domain server not available in safe mode

So this computer is not on a domain, but a chkdsk ran on it and when it booted up would not let me log in.

It's windows xp professional, now when I try to boot up into safe mode without networking and try either the main admin account or Administrator I get the message.

The system cannot log you in now because the domain SERVER is not available.

What gives? I thought if you logged onto safe mode it would log you on locally, plus like I said this computer was not on a domain, is there any way to change it? Maybe a repair install?

Sounds like your registry files were corrupted and chkdsk fixed the file system but they were damaged. I'd use your latest systemrestore point and copy the registries back from there, that should get you in.

How would I do that exactly?

Are you saying manually try to get into system volume information and copy something from there? I can't use system restore, because the computer won't let me in.

If system restore was on, the registry backup will be stored under the system volume information folder. I'm running you the door, but if you google system restore or system volume information and registry you'll find plenty of instructions on grabbing the files...
