Cannot install X-Fi

PurdueRy, I know how to do that. I have tried to do that. I browse for the proggie, select it, click open, check the box that says always open with that program. Then the program still doesn't show up as one of the choices. I've done this many hundreds of times previously. For whatever reason Windows will not let me associate the file with another program. I can watch the file with Media Player Classic if I open it thru MPC, but Windows is not letting me associate video files with MPC. Maybe it's not WMP11. I think it is. I really could care less if I had any WMP on my machine except for the codec that will allow me to play wmv files. In fact, when I attempt to watch a wmv embedded video it crashes Firefox, but not IE. I've tried all sorts of fixes for that but with no luck. And now I can't associate video files with MPC on two of my machines that I was unfortunate enough to install WMP11 on.

I may be frustsrated with this but I do apprecate your help, past and present. Also, I have no problem formatting as this is what I do all the time. I just don't have the patience to try to figure out where in the registry the OS has gotten hosed.
