I have tried for several hours and nothing works. Read all the info on line. Obviously a lot of people had success but not me. here is the advice (The bold words are my comments):

"If you installed the game through Origin, the configuration utility should be located here: Program Files* - Origin Games - Mass Effect 2 - Binaries - MassEffect2Config No config files here
(* Program Files x86 on a 64-bit OS) Yes, I found the binery files here
If you have the retail copy, you can find the Config utility through the game's launcher. If you got the game from Steam, you have to look for it in the Steam folder. In any event, the config utility is in the Binaries folder in the installation directory. No it is not! There is also a Binaries folder in the Documents directory, but that's the wrong one. Yes, it's empty

Locating the ME1 save folder
Open MassEffect2Config and go to 'Save Games'. Then click 'Copy Mass Effect 1 Save Games'. Obviously impossible
You then have to locate the folder with ME1 saves. By default, this is Documents - BioWare - Mass Effect - Save. O.K. Since I finished the game, save files were there.
Select the folder and click OK. It doesn't appear as if anything happened at all, but it should be fine now. Start ME2, and you will be able to import your save file from ME1".

I also read "just import end game main character save" Fine, but where?
If anyone knows how to do this, please advise. The directions above are useless.

Thank you,
The Wife

ok wait; where did you install ME 1? through steam or Origin *funny early origin couldn't detect steam installs; it does now and piggy backs the install for you*

I remember having some issues getting it to install; I believe the save installs for character is actually under your documents on wherever your C drive is set up....I'd have to look it up as my set up is

C for os; docs.....E drive 4 TB data storage; steam; origin games etc....character saves usually saved in documents on the C drive......they don't make it easy :D

You should just be able to move files from

\My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Save\

To

\My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2\Save\ME1\

You should just be able to move files from \My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Save\ To \My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2\Save\ME1\

I did that, but maybe the wrong files or the wrong way? Under ME2 save files are two character files (EX> John 31 soldier 05111) What should the import from ME 1 look like? I imported a folder ME1 and inside is another folder entitled ME1 save which has all the character profiles from ME 1. This was advice from someone on line. Too many file folders? Wrong wording? Please advise...thanks.

My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2\Save\ME1\

These are the file(s) I have. Are these (or one/all of these) the correct files? If not, I guess I give up.

1. Char 01........2015 24 86 MassEffect save Type MASSEFFECTSAVEFILE (then date when I finished game)
OR
2. John 01 243 MassEffect save (This is the last manual save from a string of saves)
OR
3. Profile MassEffect profile (Last in file with same ending date as 1)
OR
4. All of these or none? Currently I have everything above in ME 2 save file in folder titled ME1.
Please advise.

Iirc it is any file that begins with char_ so the one you posted should be it.
When moved to correct folder, then start new game on use import me1 option.

Im out of town right now, but ill check my system tonight when I get home and look things over.

Thanks and will look for your post. Mainly need to know what to call folder and where to put it. I think the binery thing mentioned in my first post was for using the configuration utility which I understand breaks the game. So far I placed a folder in Files x86/Bioware/ME2/Save folder

So I'm looking at the games and files right now.

You need to get the first file you posted above.
"Char 01........2015 24 86 MassEffect save Type MASSEFFECTSAVEFILE"
Copy the file then go to:
\My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2\Save\ME1\
You might have to create the ME1 folder, then place the file into it.

Thanks so much for your help:D Next time I'll ask Anandtech forums instead of getting wrong advice on line. First time I ever "imported" a character...now I know the basics.

Thanks again
