Hey I am using Aureal Audio (Vortex2) sound card and cannot hear MIDI in Winamp or any other player on my computer. I can hear them fine through websites but that's through the site's music player. Can anyone tell me why?

Running Windows XP ...

thanks

Hi,

Don't know too much about this - but I would guess this is a drivers/OS issue. Have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers?

Good luck,

Andy

Have a look at your multimedia settings (I can't remember what they are called in XP) in the control panel. In there should be a dropdown box for MIDI devices, see if that is set to the midibank on your Aureal, or if it is, try the Microsoft one.

In XP, Control Panel, Sounds-Audio Devices, then MIDI playback must have a synthesizer selected that is in your system. There should be the Microsoft GS Wavetable and possiblyt one from Aureal if you installed it. They both should work - but with an off-the-wall audio card you may have to experiment.

Hi

I have noticed some sound cards provide a separate MIDI channel on the VOLUME controls page - you may need to select OPTIONS-->PREFERENCES and place a tick next to the MIDI option (it may be called Software Synth/SW Synth or something similar.. check all the devices to be safe) in the sound device list - it is possible that your MIDI channel is muted - You can independantly mute WAVE/LINE IN/LINE OUT etc, so make sure it isn't muted or have a volume level of 0.

Regards

Nick

Try: Right mouse click on speaker Icon on bottom right of desktop.

Select "Open Volume controls" If there is a volume control for MIDI make sure it is not mute and bring up the volume.

If there is no MIDI volume control then select "Options", then "Properties"; then select MIDI from the list of volume controls and click OK.

Good luck.
