I cannot get my HP Deskjet 970 Printer connected to my computer via USB port to install. I just did a clean install on my Aabit KGG7mobo, running Win98SE. I installed the latest VIA 4in1 service pack (but not the AGP VxD driver). The Microsoft VIA USB patch would not insstall....saaid that it was not for my version of windows. Aany ideas??
Thanks

Can you use the printer via a local connection? I stopped using Abit boards in the part because they never could seem to get USB right...among other things. USB was never reliable in almost every Abit board I used. I'll keep an eye out for any more fixes. 🙁

I may have found some helpful info over at Paul's Unofficial ABIT FAQ's, located at viahardware.com. This section talks about various problems and fixes for USB devices. A couple of ideas: Enable an IRQ for the USB in the BIOS. Or, moving items out of PCI slots 4 and 6. "These share an IRQ with the USB controller and so moving devices out of these slots, or swapping a different device into the slot if all your slots are used, may resolve problems."

Try that site and let us know if it solves the problem.

Got it fixed. Had to install via Windows. It would not let me install it simply by executing the file. USB seems to be fine. I have only used Aaabit & Asus boards. No real complaints about either.
