Cannot get single SATA drive to work on VNF3-250

Just purchased a Chaintech VNF3-250 MB and a Hitachi 80GB SATA drive. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to set this drive up and get the motherboard or Windows XP installation to recognize the drive. I have it connected to the first SATA port on the MOBO, and my powersupply has it's own SATA power connector and that is plugged straight into the HDD itself.

In the BIOS I have the SATA option enabled, and IDE Raid all disabled. I tried loading the Nvidia drivers by pressing F6, and the windows setup still tells me it cannot find a harddrive. I've tried every which combination of RAID settings (on/off) to no avail. I don't know what else I can do to get this working, I'm thoroughly confused. Do I have to update my BIOS to get this to work, I have the 7/29 bios.
