Cannot get my Turtlebeach X41 to recognize the PC S/PDIF signal.

Hello. I have an ASROCK Z68M-ITX/HT motherboard. I just bought a Turtle Beach X41 headset which accepts TOS-link inout. I plugged one end of the included cable in the S/PDIF out at the back of the CPU and the other end in the receiver for my headphones. I tried the normal windows drivers, the Realtek drivers but switching in either or both of them produced no sound and no recognition in the X41 transmitter. I am using VLC to play a media file with Audio set to go over the S/PDIF port in the player as well. The transmitter works flawlessly with the RCA inputs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
