Cannot get into shared printer..

at home, i've got win2k desktop that is attached to a shared printer. there is a new lappy, inspiron 600m with XP home SP2. This lappy cannot get to the shared printer nor shared file in the desktop.

I have check that the workgroup are the same as weell the machine name is different.

i have also go through the following suggestion: (checking netbios)

but still not able to do so. i have even turn off the firewall on the lappy.

can someone suggest anything else that i should try?

How do you have your computers networked?
Can you ping each of the computers?
Do each of the computers have valid ip addresses? in the same range?
Give us some more information please

the computers are networked using a a netgear wireless b router..

The lappy was on wireless, but I also tried it on wired. both yield the same result...

there was some error message such as contact the administrator of the server for access.. the login on the wink2k and the login for the lappy are of the same name..

Both computers are able to get the internet connection via the router.

I would find out the ip address of the desktop pc, then go to the laptop click start, run,
and enter the ip address you just got from your desktop in the following format \\ip address then hit enter.
There might be a window popup asking for a username and password enter your username and password for the desktop pc.
Then you should be able to see the shared printers, folders on the pc.

have you tried accessing files off the laptop via desktop?
