Cannot get 3D acceleration/OGL in win98 with diamind viper 550 only 2D? No direct x active.

A friend of mine is using a diamond viper 550 w/ win 98...He can get
2 D video OK but no 3D at all. In directX tool directdraw..agp..directX
accelration do not appear to be active..In device manager it shows the viper...he is also using direct X 8.

Any suggestions would he helpful,

Which drivers is he using? Make sure he's using the nVidia reference drives; I think 6.xx was supposed to be good for TNT cards. Also see that he's got his chipset drivers installed; check that AGP is enabled in BIOS.
 
Definitely upgrade the drivers for this card. The ones on the driver CD are well out of date now.

The 5.xx driver series was the best for the TNT series (after that, the rest were optimised for the GF series of cards starting with 6.xx), however the latest official detonators actually offer quite good performance on TNT cards and will include more bug fixes and maybe a few other useful features.
