Cannot find my second HDD in Win 7

Hi. I just put a new computer together. First time using Windows 7. I have an SSD and an HDD plugged into an Asus P8Z68 motherboard.

Everything installed and runs fine with the SSD. But I cannot find the HDD in order to format/partition it. It shows up in the device manager, but I can't do anything to it from there. It doesn't show up in "computer". Both drives are plugged into SATA 6G's.

Thanks,

Funny, as I had the same issue with new (virgin) WD drive I put into an external enclosure. Finally, I was able to quick format it using Windows ME, then I could do what ever I wanted with it in WIN XP. The issue probably involves initial partition creation (old Fdisk). You just need to find a partition/format utility that will work (eg, old WIN98 or ME startup disk).

Have you tried going to administrative tools > Computer Management > Storage. It should list all connected drives there and you can format/partition from there.

Ah hah. Thank you. I think I'm on the right track now.

I have an option to initialize the disk with MBR (Master Boot Record) or GPT (GUID Partition Table). Which of these do want?

Thank you,
