Cannot detect operating system

Im buying a pc, for parts, the only thing wrong with it is that it keeps saying it cant detect os. Im pretty sure its thhe harddrive should i just relpace the harddrive and see?

Boot into the bios. See if the boot drive is detected.

It's possible that the drive is toast...or it could be that there is no OS on the drive...

....or that the OS is corrupted and just needs to be re-installed. which is most likely the case.

Or, the person you bought it from removed it - that is by the book. See if you can boot it with your own OS CD/DVD.

Another option if you have an external SATA/PATA to USB convertor you could hook it to another machine and run a chkdsk if there is an OS installed, if no OS is installed Try booting to a CD like windows and reinstall your OS.

Alternatively is you have a spare hard disk laying around swap them out and cross your fingers and see what happens
