cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file or disk?? wtf?

ok, so i was deleting a bunch of mp3 albums to free up some hard drive space, and it all was going fine until i get this 'cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file or disk' error when it hits the 'tool - undertow ' directory. i tried to delete the dir in dos but either a) i didn't type in the right command (deltree didn't work) or b) the folder is undeletable even in dos.
i deleted all the contents in the dir but the dir itself still stands.

can anyone help me? i think it's the extra space at the end of the folder name that is screwing with windows (xp).

the dir is called 'Tool - Undertow " (not the space after the w)

An extra space at the end of the directory name shouldn't make a difference, but you can always try to rename the directory and then delete it. It could be that the directory is being shared by another program (maybe loaded in Winamp?) and that's why it won't delete. Try looking for programs that may be using the directory, and if you find one then remove the directory from it and try to delete again.

The program that dropped it down to the hard drive or you media player may still have it in use... or you simply didn't refresh and see that it was already gone. 😉

Caught with pr0n on your parents machine, eh? hehe

no nothing else is using it, i think i grabbed it off an ftp and it had some sort of anti-delete rename trick on it (like renaming a file . // on an ftp making it undeletable)

guess i'll have to format, its too annoying 😛

Rename the directory in question. If you can rename it you can delete it using the rd command. If you cannot rename it try disabling the attributes with the attribute command.

If you are feeling really confident you could get a disk editor and remove it from the FAT by hand but that's dangerous.
