I'm in the midst of reformatting EVERYTHING in my system. Going to do a clean, fresh install of the OS.
I have two SSD drives (actually, 2 sets of 2 SSDs in RAID-0) that I need to secure erase and was told that Parted Magic is a good resource to use to do this.
One set of SSDs is the G-SKILL 32GB SLC SSD - 2 in RAID-0.
The other is the Corsair Force GT 120GB MLC SSD - 2 in RAID-0.
The problem I'm having is that whenever I try to create a bootable DVD for Parted Magic and run it, it keeps giving me an error saying "PMAGIC_2012_4_21.sqfs cannot be found". When I mounted that ISO in Windows using PowerISO and checked inside the 'pmodules' folder, that file exists!
After doing some research, I found that this issue arises because apparently Windows decides to capitalize the name of that ISO file and Parted Magic cannot read/find it!
I tried their (Parted Magic's) suggestion of renaming the ISO file but that didn't work. I tried using Nero as well as PowerISO to burn the ISO image to a DVD and neither work; I now have 2 DVD-Rs that are rendered useless.
So I decided to try creating a bootable USB flash drive. According to Parted Magic, I have to use some utility called UNetBootIn to create this bootable USB. The only problem is whenever I plug in my FRESHLY FORMATTED USB drive (FAT32 with nothing on the drive), it NEVER recognizes it in UNetBootIn. The flash drive is drive letter 'R' but only G/H/I/J/K/L/M/N show up as options in the drop-down menu under "USB" selection in the DiskImage radio button. I tried about six different USB ports on my computer to no avail.
This is extremely frustrating as I want to get on with my reinstallation of the OS but this has stalled me for several hours. I've read that merely doing a "reformat" of the SSDs are not good for the drives and it's better to do a secure erase. Even Corsair recommends using Parted Magic but I can't get the thing to load/work properly!
Please help!
Thanks in advance.
