Cannot connect to Internet

So, I recently installed some new hardware and re-installed Windows XP at the same time. Usually, when I re-install XP, i just load the ethernet drivers from the motherboard CD, plug in the modem, it recognizes it, and the internet works. Not this time. The only difference is that I had to update the BIOS in order for the new CPU to be recognised - could this have had any effect?

The M/B is an Asus M2N32-Sli Deuluxe, with 2 Ethernet ports, both of them "Nvida nForce Networking Controllers" (... whatever that means).

The Cable Modem is a Webstar DPX100, and it is directly connected to my computer - no routers or anything like that.

When I connect the modem, my PC says it's "Acquiring Network Address", stays doing that for 30-40 seconds, then "Limited or No Conectivity".

I tried connecting the ethernet cable to both sockets on my M/B, no difference.

Even if I try to access the settings/status page of my modem (192.168.100.1), it can't find the page. ("Cannot connect to Server" in firefox)

I ran ipconfig/all and came up with these results:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

C:\Documents and Settings\MyName>ipconfig/all

If I connect it with a USB cable (From the USB out of my modem), it works fine, but that appears to be limiting me to 850KB/s ( :| )

For some reason, my computer seems to not recognize the existance of the modem if I connect it through the ethernet port. I installed the modem drivers from a CD that came with it, but they only affected the USB connection (as I expected).

Any ideas?
(Sorry about the length of the post  )

Many cable services use the MAC number of the Network connector as a form of authentication (Password).

Currently it seems that your USB MAC number is the Password.

Disconnect the computer from the modem.

Switch Off the modem wait 10 minutes, and then switch On the Modem wait a minute and them plug the regular Ethernet to the modem.

If it did not help you have to call your ISP and ask them to change the MAC authentication numder.
