Cannot connect to AIM as a particular screen name

Everytime I try to connect to the AIM service as my regular screen name (Leidich109), I am told that the AIM service is unreachable. However, other names work fine. This occurs through the Windows XP, Linux, and AIM Express versions of AOL Instant Messeger. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how did you resolve it? Just wait a long time (it's been 8 hours already)?

My password is correct ... so that's not a problem...
HELP!

TIA,
TGHH

Additional info:

It freezes at 2.Verifying username and password before displaying the aforementioned error. But I know my password is correct... and it does it on multiple machines, so it's not entirely password related.

Are you sure the pw is correct? Go to the AIM site and have them email you your password.

Sometimes I get this problem. My solution is usually to quit the logon attempt when it starts to freeze at 2. Then I quickly relogon and it works.

Did that. It's correct.

Also tried what KraziKid said with no luck. And I suppose there's no way to contact the AIM division of AOHell. Guess I'm fuxxored. And I didn't backup my buddy list either. Damnit!!:|:(

I think that they have their login servers split by some scheme such as alphabetization or date created rather than just mirrored for load balancing because I have noticed this problem too at times exactly as you described. I find that it usually goes away after a day or so but it can be very frustrating. I have tried all the different AIM clones in this period when I was affected and was never able to establish a connection.

Well, it's good to hear that it might go away after a few days. I hate the thought of having my buddy list permanently lost.

I'll try contacting their support group... it's worth a shot.
